How to make your year in books
Add each book you finished this year: the title, page count, genre, the month you finished it and your star rating. Every book becomes a spine on your shelf, and longer books get taller, thicker spines. Five-star reads get a gold foil band. Tap any spine to check it or remove it.
As your shelf grows, your stats update: total books and pages, rough reading hours, average rating, your top genre, your busiest month, your longest and shortest reads and a reader title based on what you read most. When you're happy, download the story-size card (1080×1920) or the feed-size card (1080×1350), or copy a link that shows your shelf to friends.
Where do I find what I read this year?
- Your reading journal or notes app. If you kept a list, paste it in with “Paste a whole list at once”.
- Your library account. Many library apps keep a loan history you can scroll through.
- Your e-reader and receipts. Your e-reader's library and your order history jog the memory fast.
- Your shelves. Walk past them. You'll remember more than you think.
Make it a tradition
A reading wrap-up is a lovely December ritual: make a cup of something warm, build your shelf, and share it with your book club. Next year, log books as you finish them so the wrap-up takes seconds. Is my list saved?
Yes, on this device only. Your shelf is stored in your browser, so it's there when you come back on the same device and browser. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no account.
How do I share my year in books?
Pick Story (1080×1920) or Post (1080×1350) and press Download PNG, or use Share on your phone. Copy link creates a link that shows your shelf and stats to anyone you send it to; the list is stored in the link itself.
How are reading hours estimated?
We assume about 300 words per page and 250 words per minute, a common middle ground. Take our reading speed test to see how your own pace compares.
Can I add audiobooks and rereads?
Of course. It's your year. Add an audiobook with the page count of the print edition, and add a reread as its own book if you like.
Is there a limit?
The shelf holds up to 250 books. The share card fits every book it can and shows how many more are on your shelf.
